Teen Band TOKIO HOTEL Wins At Latino MTV Awards
Just when you thought you could forget about their disturbing androgenous allure, German glam pop band Tokio Hotel has struck again, taking the Song of the Year prize at the MTV Video Music Awards Latin America.
Lead singer Bill Kaulitz and his hair accepted the award - shaped like a large pierced toungue - for their song “Monsoon” in the Mexican city Guadalajara on Thursday evening. The Magdeburg-based teen group – Bill, his brother Tom, Georg and Gustav – were also honored as Best International Newcomers, in addition to receiving a prize for their Venezuelan fan club and the distinction of best mobile phone ring tone for “Monsoon.” The big winner of the night was 36-year-old Columbian singer Juanes, who was the year’s Best Artist, Best Solo Artist, Best Rock Musician and Best Regional Artist awards for his album “La Vida ... Es Un Ratico.”
Awards were decided based on some 12.5 million votes cast online, and MTV estimated that some 560 million viewers watched the show worldwide. Tokio Hotel also won the Best New Artist category for their video “Ready, Set, Go!” at the MTV Music Video Awards in Los Angeles in September.
They released their first album “Schrei” (Scream) in May 2006 and sold some 600,000 copies in six days in Germany. It also quickly became a major success in France, Austria and Switzerland.
The band’s first US single was released in late 2007. The band began touring the country in August after then 18-year-old singer Bill Kaulitz recovered from surgery to his vocal chords in late March. Tokio Hotel has also been nominated for the best live band for the November MTV Europe Awards in Liverpool, England.

Los Premios Winners: Juanes, Belanova, And TOKIO HOTEL Get Licked
¡Qué chido! Our infamous tongue award was aiming to please and spreading the love at last night’s Los Premios in Guadalajara, Mexico.
No doubt, Juanes received the most awarding licks (keep your thoughts PG 13 por favor!). The "Odio Por Amor/Hate For Love" peace advocate snagged four chévere trophies for “Artist of the Year,” “Best Solo Artist,” “Best Rock Artist” and “Best Artist - Central.” Despite his big win, the Colombian offered his roquero cred to música legends Metallica. However, who left lunatics spell bound enough to steal the “Best Fan Club” award? The tongue-twistin’ German rock group TOKIO HOTEL! Bill, Tom, Georg, and Gustav received enough tongue awards to go around by also winning the categories for “Best Song of the Year,” “Best Ringtone,” and “Best International New Artist.”
